Karuna Arts Yoga
Class Descriptions

The word “Hatha” is an umbrella term for any physical practice that is called yoga.  At Karuna Arts Yoga we offer Viniyoga and Anusara yoga, Gentle Flow Yoga and more.

Viniyoga: In this therapeutic approach to yoga practice, postures emphasize balancing the spine and breath awareness. The term viniyoga translated from Sanskrit means “to adapt.” Adapting the practice to fit each student's needs is the essence of this methodology whose roots draw from the teaching of Sri Krishnamacharya whose philosophy was that the yoga should meet the student's needs.

  • Beginners:  Students new to yoga and those returning after being away from yoga for a while should use our beginner class on Wednesdays at 5:30 pm or the "All Levels" classes.  Our classes are designed to allow the yoga to meet you where you are today.  We each have unique qualities and needs throughout our lives and yoga is adaptable to meet any your needs.
  • All-Levels Yoga: A great yoga class for beginners and open to all levels of students. Use the power of breath, mind, and body to unfold into the balance available only through yoga practice. The instructor offers students options to customize the practice to their needs.  Intermediate and advanced options will be offered after the basics are covered.
  • Prenatal: Pregnancy and childbirth are events filled with change and new experiences. The balance and stability available through yoga practice offers each student calm confidence during pregnancy. Each Prenatal Yoga session is designed to address the issues unique to your pregnancy and prepares you for childbirth. Click here to download prenatal class coupon.
  • Senior Yoga: This therapeutic yoga class promotes flexibility, balance, mind-body awareness, and breathing in this class for those 60 years and up. The instructor has 23 years experience with application of therapeutic exercise.
Sunday Morning Yoga:  A more advanced therapeutic yoga practice for those who have practiced this style of yoga for at least six months consistently.  Expect a stronger approach to the postures with a few challenging postures.

Anusara Yoga: Anusara-inspired Hatha Yoga: These classes are inspired by Anusara yoga as developed by John Friend. Anusara is distinguished by its attention to alignment principles in the body and with the Deeper Order of the Divine. Each class includes time for centering and an active flowing (vinyasa) practice – linking poses with attention to body awareness and breath, with a particular focus for the day.
